If your student is taking the August 22 SAT, the next six weeks are the most important part of their preparation.
Testing centers fill quickly, schedules become busy, and the choices students make now can have a significant impact on their score. After helping thousands of students prepare for the SAT, I’ve learned that success isn’t about studying longer—it’s about studying smarter.
Understand the Digital SAT The SAT is now fully digital and consists of two sections: Reading, Writing, & Math
Each section contains two modules, and the test is adaptive. Performance on the first module determines the difficulty of the second. Strong accuracy early in each section gives students the best opportunity to earn a higher score. The exam lasts about 2 hours and 14 minutes and includes built-in tools like a graphing calculator, answer review, and an on-screen timer.
Complete These Tasks This Week, Don’t wait until the last minute. ✅ Register before testing centers fill. ✅ Install the Bluebook app on the device your student will use. ✅ Complete the required Exam Setup. ✅ Verify your student’s ID and registration information. ✅ Confirm any approved testing accommodations.
Set a Realistic Target Score
Instead of picking a number at random, research the SAT score ranges for the colleges your student plans to apply to. Aim for a score near or above the 75th percentile of your top-choice schools, then compare that goal to a recent full-length practice test to create a realistic study plan.
Why the August SAT Matters
For rising seniors, the August SAT is one of the best opportunities to earn a competitive score before Early Action and Early Decision deadlines. If the score isn’t where you’d like it to be, there’s still time to improve before the October SAT.
For rising juniors, August provides valuable experience with the Digital SAT and establishes a strong baseline for future testing.
The next six weeks don’t have to be stressful. With the right strategy, consistent practice, and focused preparation, your student can walk into the August 22 SAT with confidence.
